As the first entry in this series where I share some artists who go above and beyond in their craft, and also grant others the knowledge they've picked up along the way.

I've never been a heavy comics reader, but have always been a fan of the medium. As a kid I have a very distinct memory of getting a stack of 50+ comics all at once, my first real foray into comics. I did not read as much as I got older and my tastes shifted to animation, but I have found myself rediscovering the art much later in life.

As I searched for anything and everything related to making comics, with the end goal of being a writer and artist, I found a lot of resources. Scott Snyder was a name I recognized, but as I reviewed his material I realized I wasn't familiar with any of it.

Surprisingly enough though he not only was a dominating writing force in DC for the past many years, but put out material on Substack to teach his own class on writing for comics. Here's the real kicker though:

This fucker only charges $6 a month for membership.

Scott Snyder offers access to previously recorded lessons in both audio and video format, and is consistently putting out new lessons for only $6 a month.

What he shares in these lessons is taught incredibly well, and he is very engaging as he speaks not just from experience in the industry but coming from writing novels too. His passion for the art form and championing newcomers willing to put in the effort is truly heartwarming and in today's landscape a breath of fresh air.

His lessons include references to his own works, how he employs those techniques, and ways of approaching writing are insightful and easy to listen to. I don't really know how much more I need to say, because for $6 you can't even buy a beer at the bar anymore. And with that cash you can learn writing from a true professional and learn from his critique and review of patron's work as well.
